Mehdi Eker dedi: “Süt sektörü diğer sektörlere göre üvey evlattı. Onunda bir üvey evladı vardı; o da hayvancılıktı. Devlet 100 lira destek verdiğini düşünün, hayvancılığa 4 lira veriyordu. Şimdi böyle bir yapıda bu üvey evlat olmaz da ne olur? Biz hayvancılığın payını yüzde 4’ten yüzde 28’e çıkardık. Bugün tarıma destek ödediğimiz her 4 liradan bir lirasından fazlasını hayvancılığa veriyoruz. Hayvancılığa önem vermek asıl budur. Şimdi Türkiye’nin sığır popülasyonu 10 milyonun altında. Bu 10 milyon sığır varlığının 5’te 1’i bile olmayan bir kültür ırkı vardı. Bugün toplam sığır varlığımızın yüzde 48’i kültür ırkı. 2.5 milyon saf ırk dişi hayvan var. Buraya gelmekle Türkiye’de hayvanlıkta verim artışı oldu. Bu politikalar olmadan önce 8.4 milyon ton süt üretiliyordu. Bugün 13.6 milyon ton geçen senenin rakamıdır. 2011’de yayınlanan istatistiktir. Yüzde 10 artış olduğunu kabul ediyoruz. Bugün FAO’nun rakamından daha yüksekteyiz. Kendi coğrafyamıza sahip olmayan sığır getiriyoruz. Bunlara ait yem ayarlıyoruz. Sulaması gibi yatırımlar yapıyoruz. O zaman işte Türkiye’nin yaptığı değişim ve dönüşüm ortaya çıkıyor. Kendi varlığınızla yaptığınız bir şey değil. Bana neden ithal ediyorsunuz diyorlar. İlk ithalat 1925’te oldu. Neden çünkü yüksek verimli kültür ırklarını getirip bununla verimi yükselteceğiz. Biz ne yaptık bunu hızlandırdık. Yüzde 10’ken kültür ırkı şimdi yüzde 40’lara çıktı. Benden önce 14 tane bakanla çalıştım. Memur olarak. Tek partiyi de gördüm kualisyonuda gördüm. Geçmişte ne yapıldığını hangi politikalar yapıldığını biliyorum. İki baş 3 baş hayvanla ne süt verimini arttırırız ne süt kalitesini arttırırız ne de ihracat yapabiliriz. Size tavsiyem işletmelerimizi biraz daha büyütelim. Anadolu’nun keçisini, koyununu beslememiz ve geliştirmemiz lazım ve biz bunu yaptık. Son iki yılda koyun ve keçi sayısında ciddi artışlar var. Sadece sığırcılığa dayandırmamalıyız. Sığırcılığı büyüteceğiz. Verimli hale getireceğiz ama koyun ve keçiyi geliştirmemiz lazım. Bizim coğrafyamızın temel varlığıdır. Bunu asla göz ardı etmemiz mümkün değildir”

Bakan Eker dedi: “Okul sütü projesi başlattık. Buna da maalesef siyasi hesaplarla birileri lekelemeye çalıştı. Bununla ilgili net bilgi vermek istiyorum. Bugün haftanın 5 günü 7 milyon 200 bin çocuğumuza süt dağıttık. Bu pilot uygulama değil. Hakkari Çukurca köyünden Edirne’deki köye kadar, İzmir’den Muğla’ya kadar, 780 bin kilometre alanda 32780 okula... Türkiye tarihinde böyle büyük bir proje uygulanmadı. 2002’de 4 vilayette pilot uygulama dışında böyle uygulama yok. O dönemde de rahatsızlanma oldu. 15 - 20 gün sürdüğü halde. Bunları görmezden geliyorlar. Ne sütün kalitesinde problem var. Gitmiş bir televizyon kanalı 7 ilden süt toplamış gitmiş özel laboratuarda analiz etmişler. Analiz sonucu temiz çıkmış. Biz binlercesini analiz ettik. Bir tane hastalık yapacak bakteri bulunmadı. Laktoz intoleransı sebebiyle bu rahatsızlıklar oldu. Ama bu çocuklara hiçbir doktor, 'bu çocuk sütten zehirlendi' demedi. Ama televizyon, gazete ve siyasi rant sağlayanlar 'sütten zehirlendi' dediler. Bir tane çocuk sütten zehirlenmedi. İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi’ne teşekkür ediyoruz. Süt dağıtarak güzel şeyler yapıyor. Diğer belediyelerin de böyle yapması gerekiyor. Ama bu sütler haftada bir plastik bardakta dağıtılıyor. Bu proje ile okul sütü projesi ile nasıl bir mukayese sağlarsınız. Biri yakın bölgede dağıtılıyor. Ötekisi tüm Türkiye’ye hakim bir proje”
