Dato ancor più preoccupante è quello riguardante la popolazione giovanile residente in alcune aree del Paese dove il gozzo può superare la prevalenza del 20 per cento Ci sono quasi 30 mila ricoveri ordinari con diagnosi di gozzo semplice, cioè quasi 50 ricoveri ogni 100 mila abitanti, con un impatto economico stimato in oltre 150 milioni di euro all’anno". "Il ministero della Salute - (\*) -, nell’ambito dei suoi compiti istituzionali, è da anni impegnato per realizzare un’efficace iodoprofilassi, quale importante misura preventiva di sanità pubblica. Sono lieto di comunicare che, nell’ambito delle attività finalizzate alla promozione della corretta alimentazione, il mio dicastero ha avviato una serie di azioni per rilanciare con rinnovato entusiasmo il concetto di iodoprofilassi. Attualmente è in corso un intervento di modifica della legge n. 55 del 2005 che ad oggi non prevede sanzioni agli obblighi previsti; in particolare sono state inserite sanzioni (da 1.000 euro a 10.000 euro) in caso di mancata disponibilità di sale iodato nei punti vendita; mancata disponibilità di sale iodato nell’ambito della ristorazione pubblica, quali bar e ristoranti e di quella collettiva, quali mense e comunità; mancata esposizione della locandina informativa negli esercizi di vendita in prossimità degli espositori". "Inoltre - ha spiegato il ministro - è in corso di emanazione un provvedimento che definisce una nuova locandina da esporre negli scaffali di vendita del sale, come remind per il consumatore sull’utilizzo del sale iodato. Accanto a questa iniziativa, stiamo realizzando ulteriore materiale informativo, con collaborazione delle Regioni e delle Società scientifiche, sia per i consumatori che per gli operatori di settore, in particolare la grande distribuzione organizzata, per una azione di sensibilizzazione all’acquisto di sale iodato. Giornate come quella di oggi, che affrontano la problematica sotto gli aspetti clinici, sociali e preventivi, rappresentano uno stimolo anche per le istituzioni che possono essere incentivate a calibrare in senso migliorativo le politiche nutrizionali del Paese. Un pensiero particolare ,voglio rivolgerlo alle donne che sono al centro di questa giornata di riflessione, poiché in determinati momenti fisiologici, quali la gravidanza e l’allattamento sono particolarmente esposte ad una carenza nutrizionale di iodio con ripercussioni negative sulla salute e qualità di vita. È in questo spirito che auguro a tutti un proficuo lavoro”
