Jean Claude Juncker said (about Gunther Oettinger): "The long-term EU budget is about acting where the EU adds the most value. It is investment in Europe-wide, world-leading research. It is funding for cross-border infrastructure, support for small businesses, and a safety net for our farmers. It is an education in another European country for generations of young Europeans. These are the priorities reflected in the Commission's proposal for the next seven years. Moreover, our proposal is a forward-looking, responsible and pragmatic plan on how to do more with less. Violeta Bulc said: "This EU project will give a boost to local economies in Naples, Caserta, Benevento, Foggia and Bari, with shorter travel time for inhabitants and tourists. In the long run, this railway line, and the many others built with EU funding in southern Italy, will contribute to better quality of air in the region”. On the link road to Naples,a connection will be made with the Maddaloni Marcianise freight yard, which passes under the historic Cancello Caserta line. This will allow freight traffic to be directly routed to the yard, without affecting the regional line. The project also involves the construction of two new train stops, Valle Maddaloni and Frasso Telesino/Dugenta. The Naples-Bari route is part of the EU's Trans-European Transport Network , on the Scandinavian-Mediterranean core corridor. The completion of the corridor, with the construction of over 9,300 km of railway - a third of which is in Italy - will connect major EU economic poles, which account for 20% of its GDP and approximately 15% of its total population. Ann Linde said: “In view of the challenges facing the Arctic due to global warming, the EU is strongly committed to helping the region adapt to climate change, protecting the environment and developing its economy in a sustainable way. We are delivering on this commitment in three practical ways: by investing in research and development, by protecting local ecosystems and biodiversity, and where appropriate, by building better infrastructure to connect the region to the mainland, including broadband connection. The EU recognises the need to work closely with national, regional and local authorities in the European Arctic in this regard. The EU emphasises its commitment to facilitate Arctic stakeholder engagement in the European Arctic region. The EU is directly affected by climatic and environmental changes in the Arctic, which profoundly alters living conditions in the Arctic and globally. Last week's Special Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on oceans and the cryosphere has strongly reinforced the message that we need to limit global warming to 1.5C. The EU is committed to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions and becoming a carbon-neutral economy by 2050” External link
